Partially Fingerless Gloves

I work for a lovely library system that sadly has poor heating in several of its older buildings. In the winter some of the library staff have to resort to wearing gloves when at work. The problem with wearing gloves is they aren't practical when typing or checking materials in. So the gloves have to go off for a bit, then back on, off, on... and sometimes it just seems that having cold hands is easier than dealing with all that.

So I decided to knit up some gloves for a friend that works in a particularly cold branch. The pinky and ring fingers are completely covered, but the others are only partially.

I used a bulky weight (12ply) acrylic yarn and size 6 circular needles.

Using twisted german cast on 16 stitches.
Knit 2, purl 2 for 12 rows (or however long you want the wrist section).
Row 13: Knit all 16 stitches. End of wrist section.

Row 14: k2 m1, k4 m1, k4 m1, k4 m1, k2  (20 stitches)
Row 15: k1 m1, k5 m1, k5 m1, k5 m1, k4  (24 stitches)
Row 16: k3 m1, k6 m1, k6 m1, k6 m1, k3  (28 stitches)
Row 17: k2 m1, k7 m1, k7 m1, k7 m1, k5  (32 stitches)
Row 18: Knit all 32 stitches.
Row 19: k4 m1, k8 m1, k8 m1, k8 m1, k4  (36 stitches)
Row 20: Knit all 36 stitches. (The glove should reach your thumb here, if it doesn't, add a few "knit all  stitches" rows.

Row 21/22: k32, put next 8 on waste yarn (last 4 stitches of row 21, first 4 stitches of row 22), cast on 1, then knit to end of row. (The 8 stitches on the waste yarn will become the thumb.)
Rows 23-27: Knit all stitches.

Row 28: k11, put next 7 on waste yarn, cast on 2, knit to end of row. (The 7 on waste yarn will become the pinky.)
Row 29-31: Knit all stitches.

Row 32: k4, put next 16 on waste, cast on 2, knit to end of row. (The 16 on waste yarn will become the middle and ring fingers.)

Rows 33-35: Knit all stitches. (At this point you are knitting up your index finger to however high you choose so add or decrease rows as you need.)
Bind off in knit 1, purl 1.

Middle Finger
Pick up and knit 2 from the index finger's cast on stitches, k4 from waste yarn, cast on 2, k4 from waste yarn.
Knit 6 rows (or however far up your middle finger you wish).
Bind off in knit 1, purl 1.

Ring Finger
Pick up and knit 2 in cast on stitches from middle finger, knit remaining 8 stitches from waste yarn.
Join round and knit 9 rows. (This should be close to the top of your ring finger.)
Row 11: k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k2tog
Row 12: k2tog, k2tog, k2tog
Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches, and pull tight.

Pinky
Pick up and knit 2 stitches in cast on stitch next to held stitches for pinky, k7 stitches from waste yarn.
Join round and knit 10 rows. (Again, this should be close to the top of your pinky.)
Row 12: k, k2tog, k, k2tog, k, k2tog
Row 13: k2tog, k2tog, k2tog
Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches, and pull tight.

Thumb
Pick up and k3 cast on stitches, knit 8 held stitches.
Join round and knit 4 rows.
Bind off in k1, p1.

Weave in all ends.

Make another if you have two hands, if you only have one hand, you are super amazing for knitting one-handed.

I forgot to take a photo of the original fingerless gloves. The one pictured here has been adjusted to be completely fingerless.
